Built for Potash Evaporation Ponds
Potash evaporation ponds and lithium brine ponds put a liner through heat, sun, concentrated brine and harvesting equipment for decades. Mirage® is an exposed-service geomembrane that E Squared's technical team has approved for potash, lithium and brine evaporation ponds.
Relining Hypalon ponds
Hypalon Reached the End of Its Service Life. Mirage Takes Over.
Many potash evaporation ponds and lithium brine ponds were lined with Hypalon (CSPE) decades ago. Those liners did their job. Now they are reaching the end of their service life, and operators need a replacement built for the same exposed conditions.
Mirage is that Hypalon replacement. It is engineered for long-term exposed service, with hot-weld seams, dimensional stability through temperature swings, and a UV and antioxidant package tested through 10,000 hours of accelerated weathering.
The same goes for ponds lined with 60 mil HDPE: Mirage is a flexible, weldable alternative for exposed brine service.
What evaporation pond liners have to survive
Evaporation ponds concentrate brine on purpose. Over months, the liner sits under increasingly saturated salt solutions that attack materials with poor chemical resistance. It has to hold that brine without seepage, so product stays in the pond and out of the ground.
These ponds are sited where the sun does the work: hot, dry and exposed. The liner takes direct UV and heat all day, then contracts through cold nights, year after year. Every one of those cycles puts stress on seams and anchor trenches.
Then there is harvest. Salts are recovered from the pond floor with equipment, so the liner also needs puncture and abrasion resistance that standard containment work never asks for.
Six reasons Mirage works in evaporation ponds
Approved for Potash Evaporation Ponds and Lithium Brine. Here's Why.
E Squared’s technical team has signed off on Mirage for potash evaporation ponds, lithium evaporation ponds and other brine pond service. These are the properties that matter most in that environment. Full test data by thickness is on the Mirage data sheets.
01 — High temperature
Holds up in pond heat
Exposed service
Potash evaporation ponds sit in full sun in hot climates for their whole working life. Mirage is formulated for continuous exposed service at high temperatures, the conditions where aging liners lose their properties fastest.
02 — UV and oxidation
Resists UV and oxidative breakdown
10,000+ hrs
A proprietary UV stabilizer and antioxidant package has been tested through 10,000 hours of accelerated Xenon-arc weathering, resisting the chalking and embrittlement that ended the service life of older CSPE (Hypalon) liners.
03 — Thermal stability
Steady through day-night swings
Low expansion
Low linear thermal expansion (ASTM D831) limits the expansion and contraction that stresses seams and anchor trenches as ponds cycle from midday heat to cold nights. Flex-fatigue tested to 20,000 cycles with no damage (ASTM D6182).
04 — Puncture and abrasion
Tough enough for harvest
Harvest-ready
In potash evaporation ponds, salts are harvested from the pond floor with equipment. Mirage’s puncture and abrasion resistance helps the liner come through harvest cycles intact, protecting both containment and recovered product.
05 — Seams
Seams that stay strong
Hot-weld seams
Hot-weld seams tested to ASTM D7747, with Mirage retaining more than 90% of its break strength at the seam. 120-inch wide rolls with encapsulated edges mean fewer seams across large ponds, and the sheet stays weldable for repairs over its service life.
06 — Brine compatibility
Compatible with concentrated brines
Brine-rated
Mirage is compatible with the concentrated brines found in potash and lithium operations. Higher chemical-resistance grades are available for aggressive chemistry. Confirm your concentrations against the chemical resistance chart.
Tested and Documented
Not just a claim on a data sheet.
Mirage’s weathering, flex-fatigue, seam and thermal data come from published ASTM and GRI test methods. For compatibility with your site’s specific brine concentrations, check the E Squared chemical resistance chart or ask our team.

|---|---|---|
| Field weldability over service life | Hot weld seams · 150 lbs/in shear knit, 320 lbs/in woven, 30 lbs/in peel (ASTM D7747), retains +90% break strength | Continues to cure after installation · aged sheet becomes progressively harder to bond |
| Flexibility / flex-fatigue | 20,000 cycles no damage, 60 mil knit (ASTM D6182) | Can stiffen and crack with age |
| Thermal stability | 1.1 x 10⁻⁴ m/m/°C linear expansion (ASTM D831) · low expansion-contraction through temperature swings | Varies |
| Standard width | 120" with encapsulated edges | Varies by manufacturer |
